So what you’re saying is I’ll have to choose between life, and a low-mileage 25-year old Tacoma.

Is that the cost of the unit, or the cardiothoracic MD fee for insertion, or both? Maybe it's time for me to switch specialties...

Looks like a US-style “insurance quote” price.

Here is a deluxe pacemaker that only costs $10,000 if you order it and get it ‘installed’ in Canada:

I'm going to go out on a limb and wager that's just the pace maker.  Medical devices get eye wateringly expensive, especially when you move into life critical left in patient, expected to last several years type devices..

You can get an arduino board for like $50.  Works the same.  Fine,  you can waterproof it with some potting epoxy.

US$250? That’s pretty decent.

I think I can get one for no cost on Oz Medicare ...just not at the moment given the distraction level at our hospitals. However, if it were required as an emergency...yep no problem.

You have better insurance than I do, apparently, I’m impressed by that adjustment. I wish I had that going for me with my collarbone surgery, for which I have to pay my $2,500 deductible plus 10% . Glad that your ticker is on pace!
